CARO – State Representative Terry Brown (D-Pigeon) will host a "Community Conversation" with The Center for Michigan in Tuscola County on Thursday, April 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tuscola Technology Center, 1401 Cleaver Road in Caro.
"I encourage those interested in the future of our state to attend and lend your views," Brown said. "This is a great chance to share issues and ideas that affect everyday life here in the Thumb. Bringing to light a variety of viewpoints and opinions helps me as a leader. Hearing what people have to say is one of the things I value most as a state representative."
Nancy Short, outreach coordinator for The Center for Michigan, will lead the conversation on the topic of the public engagement campaign "Michigan's Defining Moment" (MDM). The campaign is a statewide, nonpartisan, nonprofit effort to get people talking about Michigan's challenges and opportunities and develop a common ground agenda to help guide the decisions of local and state leaders. MDM's first report came after 180 meetings involving 1,800 diverse participants from across the state.
"When people discuss their viewpoints, leaders are better able to make the best decisions," Brown said. "Sharing in a community conversation is a great way to get that dialogue started. I hope to see many of the good people of the Thumb weigh in on important issues affecting our area and our state."
RSVPs are encouraged as space is limited. Those interested in attending should contact Melissa Weipert by April 10 at (888) 254-5284. More information on The Center for Michigan is available at www.thecenterformichigan.net.
