LANSING – State Representative Terry Brown (D-Pigeon) today announced that a plan to create jobs for more than 23,800 Michigan workers, stimulate our economy and bring much-needed improvement to Michigan's ailing roads and bridges has passed the Senate and is one step closer to being signed into law. The economic stimulus plan, which passed the House last week and is expected to pump more than $635 million into Michigan's economy, now heads to the Governor's desk.
"We need to keep Michigan moving in the right direction," Brown said. "This plan will bring more jobs and a much-needed boost to our local economy, as well as improvements to our local roads. In these tough economic times, this is great news for both our workers here in the Thumb, as well as everyone who drives on our rocky roads."
The $635 million federal stimulus package will provide funding for more than 130 road and bridge improvement projects around the state, and create jobs for Michigan workers. Some of the local projects include:
- $975,000 in shoulder improvements on M-25 in Huron County
- $468,000 in shoulder improvements on M-15 in Tuscola County
"I was happy to see support from both sides of the aisle on this very important plan," Brown said. "Improved roads bring so many possibilities to the table. New businesses and tourists will be encouraged to come to our area and learn what we already know – the Thumb is a great place to live, work and play."
