Experience
State Rep. Terry Brown worked for the Huron Intermediate School District for 23 years. He worked as a social worker and, most recently, as principal of the Huron Learning Center, a school for children with significant cognitive, emotional and behavioral issues. He has been a minister for more than 20 years and is associate pastor of Bay Port Community of Christ Church. He also served as president and negotiator for his local Michigan Education Association chapter.
Community Involvement
Rep. Brown is an active community member. He serves on the Thumb Area Transit’s advisory committee, and is a member of the MSU Extension Council and the Early On Council in Huron County. He also is a volunteer hockey referee and a coach for Special Olympics athletes.
Rep. Brown has volunteered for the Huron County Sheriff’s dive team and served as an advisory council member for the Human Development Commission’s Drug and Alcohol Committee. He also helped to organize local Habitat for Humanity projects, the Huron County Council for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect (CAN Council), Thumbresources.org, and the Homeless Coalition in Huron County.
Education
Rep. Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in social work and psychology from Graceland University in Iowa. He went on to earn two master’s degrees: a master’s in social work from Michigan State University and a master’s in educational administration from Grand Valley State University.
Family
Rep. Brown is married to Carol. They have one daughter, Teresa, and two sons, Chris and Bryan.
